| Pronghorn | Montana pronghorn season runs Oct 12–Nov 29 in districts with open pronghorn license availability; most pronghorn licenses are available over-the-counter for residents while nonresident licenses are limited by district quota. Hunters must possess a valid Montana hunting license and pronghorn license. Legal methods include centerfire rifles, shotguns, and handguns. Montana's open plains east of the Continental Divide hold the largest pronghorn populations — Phillips, Valley, Garfield, and Petroleum Counties consistently produce trophy-class bucks. Spot-and-stalk hunting with quality optics across the shortgrass prairie is the standard and most rewarding approach. |
