Montana White-tailed Deer Hunting
Regulations 2026
White-tailed deer are the most widely distributed and heavily hunted game animal in North America, present in all 48 contiguous states. Identified by the distinctive white underside of the tail raised like a flag when alarmed, a reddish-brown summer coat turning grayish-brown in fall, and a white eye ring and throat patch. Bucks grow a new set of antlers each year, reaching peak size between 4-7 years of age. Adults weigh 100-350 lbs depending on region, with northern deer growing significantly larger than southern populations.
