Important Notes
New Jersey-Specific Regulations
New Jersey allows saltwater spearfishing in coastal ocean waters and the Delaware Bay; a free NJ Saltwater Recreational Registry Certificate is required. Spearguns and pole spears are legal for most marine finfish species; however, striped bass, bluefish, and weakfish are subject to strict bag and size limits, and spearfishing for flatfish in designated nursery areas is prohibited. New Jersey prohibits spearfishing within 300 feet of any ocean beach or swimming area and requires diver-down flag display during dives.
