Maryland-Specific Wilderness Rules
Maryland has no federally designated wilderness areas. Green Ridge State Forest requires a free dispersed camping permit obtainable online from Maryland DNR. AT through Maryland (40 miles) uses established shelters — no permit needed. Black bears present in western Maryland — use bear boxes at designated campsites.
