Maine-Specific Wilderness Rules
Baxter State Park has strict vehicle limits, campsite quotas, and an advance reservation system — book as far in advance as possible for Katahdin summit hikes (June–October). The Allagash Wilderness Waterway requires a $15/person fee. Black bears common throughout Maine North Woods. Moose are abundant — keep distance. 100-Mile Wilderness thru-hikers should carry 10+ days of food.
