Additional Notes: Utah's Great Salt Lake wetland complex is one of the most important waterfowl areas in the entire Western Hemisphere, serving as a critical staging and wintering area for millions of birds on the Pacific Flyway. Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge at the north end of the Great Salt Lake is the largest freshwater component of the Great Salt Lake ecosystem and consistently produces exceptional hunting. Utah offers one of the most coveted hunting experiences in North America — the tundra swan permit — with birds staging in impressive numbers on the Bear River and adjacent marshes. The state's declining water levels in the Great Salt Lake have elevated conservation concerns.
