How to Get a Saltwater Fishing License in Florida

Determine If You Need a Saltwater License
Florida requires a separate standalone saltwater fishing license. Your standard freshwater fishing license does NOT cover saltwater fishing here. Both licenses may be required if you fish both environments.

at a licensed tackle shop or sporting goods retailer, or at a regional Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission office.
Have your state ID or residency documentation ready. Out-of-state anglers will need a nonresident license.

Florida Saltwater License Requirements
All anglers 16+ fishing in Florida saltwater must have a valid Florida Saltwater Fishing License. Anglers on licensed for-hire vessels are covered by the captain's license. Residents can fish from shore on their own property without a license.

Florida also requires separate stamps for snook ($10), lobster, and tarpon ($51.50 per tag). Pier licenses available at licensed piers.
