| Moose | Alaska moose firearms season opens Sep 1 and runs through Sep 20 in most Southcentral and Interior units; legal bulls vary by unit and may be defined by antler spread (≥50 inches), brow palm configuration, or spike-fork criteria — confirm unit-specific legal bull definitions before hunting. A moose tag is required; nonresidents must be accompanied by a registered Alaska guide. Antlers must accompany the meat to the point of delivery, and moose may not be wasted — evidence of sex must remain attached until the animal reaches a permanent camp or vehicle. The rut begins in earnest in late September, but September openers catch bulls responsive to calling in pre-rut staging areas. |
