How Camping Reservations Work in Rhode Island

Rhode Island DEM uses Reserve America with a 6-month advance booking window. Camping is highly concentrated: Burlingame State Campground (near Charlestown) hosts the vast majority of Rhode Island's public campsites at over 700 sites, plus smaller state park campgrounds at Fishermen's Memorial, George Washington, and Pulaski Memorial. Rhode Island does not currently offer state park cabins.

🎯 Peak Season & Deadlines

Peak season is Memorial Day through Labor Day, with Burlingame State Campground (Rhode Island's only major state campground with 700+ sites) booking to capacity 6 months out for summer weekends.

💡 Booking Tips

Burlingame is essentially Rhode Island's only meaningful state campground and books hard for summer. Consider Fishermen's Memorial State Park for beach access. Rhode Island is one of the few states where private KOA-style campgrounds are the more realistic option for RV travelers.

🔄 Cancellation Policy

Free cancellation more than 15 days before arrival; one-night fee forfeited within 15 days.

George Washington Memorial Campground in northwestern Rhode Island offers 45 primitive campsites on Bowdish Reservoir — a quiet 226-acre lake in a rural woodland setting.
