How to Get an Alligator Hunting Tag in Georgia

Purchase a Georgia Hunting License
A valid state hunting license is required before applying for or receiving alligator tags. Purchase through Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources.

Apply for the Draw
Georgia requires a draw application for alligator tags.

Receive Your Tag & CITES Documentation
If selected in the draw, you'll receive your alligator tag(s) for $100.00 (resident) and official CITES documentation tags. Maximum 1 tag(s) per resident hunter.

Attach CITES Tag at Harvest
Immediately upon harvesting an alligator, attach the CITES documentation tag to the carcass. The tag must remain with the hide and meat through processing and transport. Failure to tag a harvested alligator is a federal violation.

Georgia alligator tags are issued via a limited draw by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Resources Division, and each tag includes a numbered CITES attachment tag that must be locked through the alligator's tail webbing or lower jaw immediately at the harvest site. Hunters must report their harvest online or by phone to Georgia DNR within 24 hours of taking the animal, providing harvest location coordinates, time, and alligator length. All alligator hides and skulls intended for commercial sale in Georgia must be accompanied by a valid CITES tag; meat may be retained or donated, but sale of alligator meat requires a separate commercial dealer permit from Georgia DNR.
