How to Become a Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator in New York

Find a Sponsor
Contact New York State DEC for a list of licensed rehabilitators in New York who accept apprentices. The National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (NWRA) also maintains a national directory. Your sponsor will provide hands-on training and vouch for your application.

Complete Required Training
Complete the required wildlife rehabilitation training coursework. Approved courses are available through NWRA, IWRC, and state-specific programs. Training covers animal handling, species identification, basic first aid, housing, nutrition, and safe release techniques.

Submit Your State License Application
