Texas-Specific Wilderness Rules
Big Bend NP backcountry permits ($10/permit) required for all overnight use — reserve at recreation.gov or visitor center. Guadalupe Mountains NP backcountry permits are free at the visitor center. Water is critically scarce in Big Bend — carry 1 gallon/person/day minimum. Black bears present in the Chisos Mountains — use provided bear boxes.
