How to Become a Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator in Ohio

Complete Required Training
Complete the required wildlife rehabilitation training coursework. Approved courses are available through NWRA, IWRC, and state-specific programs. Training covers animal handling, species identification, basic first aid, housing, nutrition, and safe release techniques.

Apply for Federal Migratory Bird Permit (If Needed)
To rehabilitate songbirds, raptors, waterfowl, or any other migratory bird, apply for a federal Migratory Bird Rehabilitation Permit from the USFWS Regional Office after receiving your state license. The federal permit is free but requires demonstrated experience and appropriate facilities. Apply at permits.fws.gov.
