Spearguns, pole spears, and Hawaiian slings are legal for most marine finfish; however, red drum, spotted seatrout, and flounder may not be taken by spear, and spearfishing for any species is prohibited in bays and estuaries within the Coastal Fisheries designated game fish zones. Nighttime spearfishing is permitted in Texas saltwater, and divers must display a diver-down flag within 50 feet while underwater.
